Medical translation

While being treated in Türkiye, you should be able to understand every report

The discharge summaries (epikriz), test results and prescriptions that Chinese patients receive after surgery, dental treatment or a check-up in Türkiye are usually only in Turkish. Yeni İpekyolu (New Silk Road)’s medical translators translate these documents accurately into Chinese, making your follow-up care and insurance procedures in China easier. We also translate manuals and technical documents for Chinese medical devices sold in Türkiye. We only translate and accompany you in communication; the doctor decides on diagnosis and treatment.

Treatment in Türkiye: understand every report and test result

01

Why shouldn’t a medical report be translated with a phone app?

Private hospitals in Türkiye see international patients in areas such as cosmetic surgery, dentistry, hair transplants and eye treatment; however, hospitals’ official documents are generally in Turkish, sometimes with a short English version attached. These documents contain the diagnosis, surgical method, materials and medicines used and follow-up requirements, and your doctor in China plans further treatment based on them. Relying only on a phone translation app easily leads to errors in drug names, dosages and medical terms. A single error in a medical document can directly affect medication safety.

It must be stressed that the job of translation is to help you and your doctor understand the document, not to explain the illness in place of the doctor. Our translators translate the original text as it is and add no interpretation of their own. All questions about the treatment plan should be answered by the doctor.

02

Personal reading, an insurance claim or follow-up in China?

First, you send a photo or PDF of the report and state its purpose: personal reading, an insurance claim or follow-up in China. A translator with a medical background translates it; values, units and abbreviations are kept exactly as they are, and the active ingredient is given for medicines. A second translator checks drug names, dosages and figures one by one, and then the translation is delivered.

If the translation will be submitted to an insurance company, school or other institution, sworn translation or notarisation may be needed. Institutions’ expectations differ, so confirm in advance. For medical device documents, we work together with your regulatory team; translation begins once terminology and format requirements are clear.

03

Get your discharge summary, test results and prescription before you leave hospital

Many patients don’t ask the hospital for complete written documents when they are discharged and only realise after returning to China that the surgical notes or material information are missing. Before discharge, make sure you have the discharge summary, laboratory and imaging reports, the prescription and any documents relating to implant materials. Turkish hospitals can usually provide electronic or printed copies, and you can also make the request on the spot through an accompanying interpreter.

Another common problem is medication. Brand names of drugs in Türkiye differ from those in China; buying a drug with “the same name” in China on your own can lead to the wrong medicine. Give the translation to your doctor or pharmacist in China and let them determine the equivalent drug.

04

Turkish drug names differ from Chinese ones; don’t buy medicine on your own

Yeni İpekyolu offers Chinese–Turkish translation of medical reports, test results, prescriptions, insurance documents and medical device documentation, and through our hospital accompaniment service can make sure an interpreter is by your side during examinations. We handle translation and communication; the doctor decides on diagnosis and treatment, and medical device registration and conformity are confirmed by your regulatory consultant and the relevant authority. Your health information is kept confidential.

Please prepare clear, complete photos or scans of the reports, the spelling of your name as it appears in your passport and the intended use of the translation. For medical device projects, share product information, any English version and your regulatory team’s format requirements.

02 · Who it is for

For those being treated in, living in or selling devices in Türkiye

01

Chinese patients being treated in Türkiye

For those who want to understand their reports after cosmetic surgery, dental treatment, a hair transplant, eye treatment or a check-up, and take them home in Chinese. Your follow-up doctor in China needs to know what procedure was performed in Türkiye and what materials and medicines were used. An accurate Chinese translation makes further treatment easier.

02

Chinese residents in Türkiye and their families

Diagnosis reports and prescriptions from hospital stays, chronic illness treatment or children’s check-ups are translated. People living in Türkiye long term deal with local hospitals frequently; understanding the reports gives you and your family peace of mind. We can also translate health reports to be submitted to employers or schools.

03

Medical device and pharmaceutical companies

User manuals, labels and technical files for medical devices sold in Türkiye must be in Turkish. Detailed requirements for these documents are generally set by TİTCK regulations and often parallel EU rules. We handle the translation; your regulatory consultant assesses regulatory compliance.

03 · Scope

Discharge summaries, test results, prescriptions and medical device documents

01

Discharge summary

The diagnosis, course of treatment, surgical notes and discharge recommendations are translated. Medication use, follow-up dates and restrictions in the discharge recommendations are especially important. We translate every item in full and skip no section.

02

Laboratory and imaging reports

Blood tests, pathology and CT / MRI reports are translated, with values and reference ranges kept exactly as they are. We translate only the descriptive text and never change any value or unit. Medical abbreviations are retained, with Chinese explanations added where needed.

03

Prescriptions and medication use

Drug names, doses and directions for use are translated, and the active ingredient name is given for comparison in China. Brand names of drugs in Türkiye are often different in China; active ingredient information helps Chinese doctors and pharmacists identify the medicine. Follow your doctor’s instructions on changing or continuing medication.

04

Insurance and claim documents

Invoices, itemised bills and diagnosis documents are translated for insurance reimbursement. Insurance companies have different expectations regarding translation format and certification, so ask your insurer in advance. If sworn translation or notarisation is needed, we can arrange it.

05

Medical device documents

User manuals, labels and clinical evaluation summaries are translated into Turkish. We clarify terminology and format requirements with your regulatory team. On whether documents meet registration requirements, TİTCK’s current rules and your regulatory consultant’s opinion are what count.

What you need to provide

  • Clear photo / scan of the report or file; every page complete
  • Spelling of your name as in your passport
  • Purpose of the translation (personal, insurance, treatment in China)
  • For medical device projects: product information and an English version, if available
05 · Process

Delivered after a double check of drug names and doses

  1. 1

    Send the document

Send a photo or PDF of the report via WeChat or email and state its purpose (personal, insurance, follow-up in China). Photos must be clear and complete, with the hospital name and date in the header visible. The purpose determines whether sworn translation or notarisation is needed.

  2. 2

    Medical translation

A translator with a medical background translates; original values, abbreviations and units are preserved. Handwritten prescriptions or illegible sections are not guessed at but marked as “illegible”. If necessary, we recommend getting a printout from the hospital.

  3. 3

    Checking

A second translator checks drug names, doses and values so nothing is missed. In medical documents, a single number or unit error can cause serious misunderstandings. A double check is our standard process.

  4. 4

    Delivery

The translation is delivered as a PDF; if official use is required, sworn translation and notarisation are arranged. The layout of the translation is kept as close as possible to the original so the doctor can compare them. Your health information is used only for translation and is kept confidential.

06 · FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can you interpret the report or give medical advice?

No. We are responsible only for accurate translation; we don’t give diagnoses or treatment recommendations or interpret the doctor’s assessment. Ask your doctor any questions about your illness and treatment; we can interpret during your conversation with the doctor.

Can an interpreter be with me during the examination?

Yes. With our hospital accompaniment service, a Chinese interpreter is by your side during examinations, consultations with the doctor and procedures. The interpreter conveys what the doctor and you say exactly as it is and does not make medical decisions on your behalf.

What documents are needed to register a medical device in Türkiye?

In Türkiye, medical devices are generally regulated by TİTCK (Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency), and the legislation is largely aligned with the EU. For exact registration requirements and the documents needed, TİTCK’s current rules and your regulatory consultant are the reference. We translate the relevant documents.

What should I do if the insurance company wants a certified or notarised translation?

We can arrange sworn translation and notarisation in Türkiye. If the document will be used in China, additional certification may be needed; first ask your insurer or the receiving institution for the details. Proceeding once the requirement is clear avoids unnecessary costs.

Will my health information be shared with others?

No. Your documents are used only for translation and are seen only by the translators working on the project. If you wish, we can sign a non-disclosure agreement and delete the files after delivery at your request.

Can my medical records from China be translated into Turkish for a Turkish doctor?

Yes. Translating your test results, medical history and medication list from China into Turkish before coming to Türkiye for treatment helps the Turkish doctor understand your condition. The Turkish doctor decides whether repeat tests are needed.

Can a report be translated quickly in an emergency?

Short reports can usually be translated urgently. However, in a medical emergency, contact the hospital immediately or call 112 without waiting for the translation. We can also arrange an on-site interpreter to help with communication at the hospital.
