Business interpreting

Have a Chinese interpreter who knows your industry by your side at business meetings in Türkiye

At customer visits, factory audits, product inspections or supplier meetings, an interpreter must understand not just the language but also the industry and business culture. 01 · Overview

Visiting Turkish companies with an interpreter who knows your industry

01

SME owners in Anatolia talk price in Turkish

In many Turkish SMEs, especially in industrial cities outside Istanbul, the everyday working language is Turkish. The owner or technical manager may know some English, but when it comes to pricing terms, technical values or quality issues, they prefer to speak their native language. If both sides speak non-fluent English, misunderstandings pile up in the details. Direct Chinese–Turkish interpreting lets you hear exactly what the other side means.

A business interpreter's value goes beyond language. An interpreter who knows the industry understands what lead time, tolerance, minimum order quantity and payment milestones mean, and reminds you to ask questions when the other side is vague. In the factory, they help you observe details such as production management, inventory and staffing. This information is valuable for your purchasing and partnership decisions.

02

A business day, from meeting at the hotel to sample correspondence

Usually you first send us the companies to visit, the dates and the industry; an interpreter suited to the industry is selected and we confirm whether intercity travel is needed. Before the meeting, the interpreter reads your company profile, product catalogue and price quotation and prepares the key terms. On the day of the visit, the interpreter meets you at the hotel or at the company's door and stays with you throughout the meetings and tours.

At the end of the meeting, the interpreter summarizes the main points and reminds you which questions the other side did not answer clearly. If the partnership moves forward, we can also help you follow up subsequent emails, calls and sample correspondence in Turkish. Many Chinese clients realize that what determines the outcome is the regular communication long after the first meeting.

03

“No problem, we can do it” is no substitute for written confirmation

A common misconception is taking the Turkish side's warm attitude as a firm commitment. Turkish businesspeople are hospitable and often say “no problem” or “we can do it”, but delivery times and prices should be confirmed in writing. Another mistake is planning a schedule so packed that you visit four or five companies a day. In Türkiye, meetings usually include conversation over tea and city traffic is heavy, so leaving slack in the schedule is more realistic.

Public holidays, Ramadan and summer vacations also affect the other side's working schedule, so check the dates before you travel. We recommend bringing product brochures in Turkish or English and business cards so the company can share them internally. If contract clauses and payment terms involve legal or tax matters, they should be reviewed by a Turkish lawyer or financial advisor; we take care of interpreting and communication coordination.

02 · Who it is for

For those working face to face with Turkish suppliers and customers

01

Exporters looking for Turkish customers

Companies visiting importers and dealers to present products and discuss terms of cooperation. Turkish buyers usually ask about details such as certificates, delivery times, payment terms and after-sales service. The interpreter helps you present your product's advantages clearly and understand the other side's real concerns.

02

Buyers sourcing from Türkiye

Companies visiting supplier factories in sectors such as textiles, natural stone and food to verify capacity and quality. Factory tours move quickly, and much of the important information comes from production managers' on-the-spot explanations. The interpreter conveys these details in full, helping you make the right decision.

03

Chinese companies setting up facilities in Türkiye

Day-to-day communication with Turkish employees, contractors and local authorities. In the early stage of a project, meetings are frequent and topics varied, and communication breakdowns can cause delays. An on-site interpreter becomes a steady bridge between the Chinese and Turkish teams.

04

After-sales and technical support engineers

Technical interpreting during equipment installation, commissioning and training. Technical interpreting is not word-for-word translation; it requires understanding how the equipment works and the operating steps. Wherever possible, we assign an interpreter with relevant experience.

03 · Scope

Interpreting from the meeting table to the factory floor

01

Business meeting interpreting

Customer visits, cooperation talks and routine meetings. The interpreter gets to know your company and products in advance and accurately conveys what both sides say during the meeting. When needed, they also help with exchanging business cards and making introductions.

02

Factory and on-site interpreting

Factory tours, production line briefings, quality inspections and quality discussions. Because production environments are noisy, the interpreter stays close to the speaker and repeats key points. Issues found during inspection are interpreted one by one and confirmed with the other side.

03

Technical training interpreting

Equipment installation, operator training and maintenance guidance. Accuracy improves markedly if the Chinese user manual or training presentation is provided in advance. If needed, translation of written materials is planned at the same time.

04

Business culture tips

We brief you on Turkish business etiquette and communication style to prevent misunderstandings, covering topics such as meeting times, forms of address, and dining and religious customs. These tips are usually shared briefly before the meeting or during breaks.

05

Post-meeting follow-up

We can support you with meeting summaries, follow-up emails and phone calls. Many partnerships take shape weeks after the meeting, so keeping communication going in Turkish during this period is important. Follow-up services can be arranged per task or on a monthly basis.

05 · Process

Share your schedule, and the interpreter prepares the terminology

  1. 1

    Share your schedule

Share the companies you will meet, the industry, dates and locations. If the programme covers several cities, add the approximate route as well. Based on this, we assess the number of interpreters and travel arrangements.

  2. 2

    An interpreter for your industry

An interpreter familiar with the relevant industry is assigned and the quotation is approved. The quotation shows the interpreting fee and any travel expenses separately. Once approved, the interpreter's schedule is reserved.

  3. 3

    Preparation

The interpreter reviews product information and key terms in advance. You can send the interpreter your company profile, price quotation and technical specifications. A short briefing about your objectives can also be held before the meeting.

  4. 4

    Meeting accompaniment

Interpreting is provided throughout the meeting, with a short summary at the end. The interpreter draws your attention to issues the other side raised that remain unclear. A written summary is prepared separately if needed.

06 · FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How are fees calculated for out-of-town assignments?

In addition to the interpreting fee, transport, accommodation and meal expenses are usually charged separately and stated in the quotation. If the programme covers several cities, we suggest the most time-efficient route. You can also arrange transport yourself and the interpreter will accompany you.

Does the interpreter know technical terminology?

Wherever possible, we assign an interpreter experienced in the relevant industry. Providing materials and a terminology list in advance improves interpreting quality. For highly specialized equipment or processes, we recommend reviewing critical content with the interpreter before the meeting.

Can an interpreter be assigned long-term?

During project construction or a factory launch, an on-site interpreter can be arranged on a weekly or monthly basis. On long-term assignments, the interpreter gradually gets to know your team, processes and terminology. Working hours and leave arrangements are set out in the contract.

Where are Türkiye's industrial cities concentrated?

Besides Istanbul, cities such as Bursa, Kocaeli, İzmir, Kayseri, Gaziantep, Denizli and Konya have strong industry, each with its own leading sectors. We can suggest a programme based on your industry. You or your business partners decide which companies to visit.

What should I keep in mind when visiting Turkish companies?

In Turkish business settings, people usually dress formally, shake hands when meeting and exchange business cards. Hosts often offer tea or coffee, and accepting is a sign of courtesy. When scheduling appointments during Ramadan and around Friday midday, it is important to respect the other side's religious practices.

Can the interpreter set up appointments with Turkish customers?

We can help you confirm meeting times with your existing contacts by phone or email in Turkish. If you are looking for new customers or distributors, ask us about our matchmaking service. Whether to accept the meeting is the other side's decision.

Can the interpreter tell me whether a supplier is reliable?

The interpreter conveys what they see and hear on site as it is and points out inconsistencies, but cannot vouch for a supplier. For a company's registration and background information, you can also use our Turkish company check service. The final assessment is yours.
